Fun twist with Luigi, but not challenging or educational
You would think that Mario games are always good. Well...
Mario is Missing! on the Super Nintendo offers a unique twist as you play as Luigi searching for his brother Mario. This is quite fun, as you usually play as Mario himself. What makes this game different is that it is part of the series of "educational" Mario games for the Super Nintendo. Unfortunately, the game is not very challenging or educational.

Still, it is certainly an interesting piece of Mario history. The visual style and music immediately take you back to the 90s. However, the gameplay itself feels repetitive and sometimes even a bit dull. The idea of learning about geography through a Mario game sounds fun, but the execution leaves much to be desired.
All in all, Mario is Missing is a game you should play mainly if you're a true Mario fan and want to experience the entire collection. For others, it might be a bit disappointing. It's certainly not a classic like
Super Mario World, but it has its charm if you love nostalgia.

5,5Educational Adventure with Luigi Misses Challenge for Mario Fans
Mario is Missing! for the SNES is an educational adventure game aimed at younger players and represents quite a departure from the traditional Mario platformers. In this game, you don’t play as Mario, but as Luigi, who travels the world to rescue his brother from Bowser. The game combines basic platforming elements with geographical and historical trivia, which is an interesting concept in itself.
In terms of gameplay, Mario is Missing! differs significantly from other titles in the Mario series. Luigi visits various cities around the globe, collecting objects and answering questions to progress. Although this educational concept sounds intriguing on paper, I found the gameplay often felt slow and repetitive. The puzzles are too simple and lack the challenge you would expect from a Mario title. This can be quite frustrating for fans of the classic Mario games.

Visually, the game is comparable to other Mario games on the SNES, featuring colourful and detailed sprites. However, the music is somewhat less energetic and memorable compared to the iconic tunes from other Mario games. This contributes to an overall feeling that the game is less vibrant than other titles in the series.
In summary, Mario is Missing! is a unique but simple educational adventure. While it’s a decent way to teach children some geographical knowledge, it’s unlikely to capture the interest of older players or fans of the traditional Mario platformers.

5,0Nothing is what it seems
Mario is Missing! and the Super Nintendo usually a golden combination, right? Just like Mario's Time Machine, we're talking about an educational game, one you should skip!
You don't even play as Mario but as Luigi. Rare to find complete in box but that's about all that can be said. The game is full of bugs, like having to stand in a very specific spot (in the middle of the road) to cross it. Terrible game! Cijfer:

"Mario is Missing!" deviates from the traditional Mario platform games and opts for an educational approach where players traverse real cities to recover stolen artifacts. While the concept is unique, the game falls short in terms of engaging gameplay and lacks the charm of its predecessors. The emphasis on geography may appeal to some players, but overall it is considered one of the weaker entries in the Mario series, with limited appeal beyond its educational objectives.

Historical Context
Haha! "Mario is Missing" was released in 1993 and was one of the first games featuring Luigi as the main character. It was a time when educational games were becoming more popular, bridging the gap between learning and having fun. While it may not have had the same impact as the classic Mario platformers, it certainly holds a special place in history as a unique and daring experiment within the Mario universe.
